Description

Roberts Wesleyan College will be celebrating its 150th year at Homecoming 2016, September 23-25.

On Friday evening at 7:30 pm, there will be an exciting concert presented by alumni and the Roberts Wesleyan College Community Orchestra. Well-known selections from musical theater, opera, and jazz will be performed by full orchestra, a large alumni choir, jazz combos, and vocal and instrumental soloists. All proceeds from the concert will go towards future music scholarships.

Beyond the orchestra, all performers in the concert will be Roberts Wesleyan College alumni. We would love to have as large a choir as possible and hope that you are able to join us. Below are the pieces we will be performing (as well as the College’s Alma Mater).

Dies Irae & Tuba mirum (from Requiem)

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)

The Heavens are Telling (from Creation)

Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)

Make our Garden Grow (from Candide)

Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990)

Morning Has Broken

Steve Shewan ’83 (b. 1962)

Chorus of the Hebrew slaves (from Nabucco)

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)

Battle Hymn of the Republic

arr. P. J. Wilhousky (1902-1978)

  • PDF copies of the music will be sent to you via email in early August.
  • The expectation is that you will learn the music on your own.
  • There will only be one rehearsal for this concert (Thursday, September 22nd from 7-10 pm).
  • The Robert Shewan Chorale will be the core of the choir for this performance. Local alumni are free to rehearse with them on September 12th and 19th. (This will not be a requirement to sing with the group.)

We hope that you are able to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event! If you have any questions or need any clarification, please email Nelson Hill at hill_nelson@roberts.edu.
